Easy White Pasta Dish

Ingredients:

About 3 cups of pasta, I used small shells this time but any will do
1 cup of frozen peas
1 small can of mushroom pieces
touch of salt

Boil all together until pasta is just past al dente

Put cooked ingredients in colander and leave set while you make the sauce

Using your original pan add:
1 8oz bar of cream cheese
1/4 cup of butter
1/3 cup milk

Heat over medium heat, stir often until all melted together

  Mix altogether and serve.

I sometime add bacon or ham if I have leftovers.  (Who would think you would have leftover bacon?)

Enjoy

Preparedness Quick Tip: Frozen Multi-Purpose Water Storage

frozen water storageWe like to use emptied soda and juice jugs for water storage.  They are cheap (sometimes free if you clean up after a party!) and we can usually find a place to stash them because they’re much smaller than 55 gallon barrels.  One place we put a few of the juice jugs of water for storage is in the freezer.  Simply wash your jug out really well (you could do a rinse with a bit of bleach to get them super clean), then fill a bit down from the top with water to give the water room to expand as it freezes.  Screw the lid on nice and tight, put it in the freezer and it’s good to go.
We use the juice jugs because they’re a freezer friendly rectangular shape.  This shape also makes them cooler friendly, so even though they are classified as water storage, they make perfect ice blocks for camping trips that DO NOT melt all over your food in the cooler or cost you any extra money or hassle.  (And hey, you can drink them when they’re melted.)
These ice blocks could also be transferred to your refrigerator to keep it cooler longer in the event of a power outage.  And the less air space there is in your freezer, the longer things will stay frozen without power, so filling up the empty space in your freezer with juice jugs of water is a win-win-win situation all around.

Last weekend my daughter, Nicole, and I went to an estate sale of the family of a high school friend.  And one of the things I could not pass up was this box of goodies.   My son, Andrew, started digging and of course found a couple of sling shots, please pray for the cat, an old box cutter, we had to have the talk of what you don't leave in your pocket on school days, and several other goodies he could not live without.

I of course had no interest in his goodies, except for the safety of everyone around, but dig out some cute little pieces that will look great in my dollhouse.

Thank you Shann Anderson Elble for sharing.

Emergency Candle from Crisco

Make an Emergency Candle Out of a Tub of Crisco

Candles are always good to have on hand in case the power goes out, but if you get caught without any in your house, you can make a dead simple candle with a tub of shortening and a piece of string.
We've featured a number of DIY lamps for those emergency situations, but it's hard to get any simpler than this. Just pull out a tub of shortening, put a piece of string in the middle, and light it up. Not only will it burn, it'll last for 45 days—enough to get you through a zombie apocalypse or two. eHow recommends using a candle wick, but you should be able to use regular old string, too—some people even say a rolled up piece of paper makes a good wick. For the full step-by-step, check out eHow's guide, and for more tips and tricks hit the link below. Photo by Amy Stephenson.
